What US Did To English

How epic was, that blasphemy
No less epic, its aftermath
Which sinned, the soul of poetry
And pushed prose, on perdition’s path!

That rootless outpost, now stands tall
With black history, and white dialect
Which shoved to shadows, fond recall
Of an elegance, and her lost intellect!

‘Wanna’, ‘gonna’, ‘fuck’ … et al
Flaunt off, the plight, of a spent ethos
New spellings, grammar, flout rationale
Facts, fictions, breathe void, spit pathos!

If this is how, languages progress
From finesse, to avant-garde anguish
For ages lingerS, this largess
What US Did To English!
